Redcliffe Leagues Padres Baseball Club’s Major A Grade team missed an opportunity to gain ground on second placed All Stars when it split its weekend series with one win each. Playing a double header at Hendra, game one was a real pitcher’s duel with the final score line 2-1 in favour of All Stars. Padres actually out hit the opposition but two crucial errors in the first innings gave up the only 2 runs All Stars would score, both of them unearned. Nathan Dick was unluckily the losing pitcher, giving up just 4 hits in seven innings of work while the best of the bats for Padres was Phil Schramm who picked up two hits. Game 2 was a better result with the team defeating All Stars 6-4 although the score should have been greater, the visitors out hitting the opposition eleven hits to four but leaving too many runners on bases. Tim Henderson picked up his fourth win of the season on the mound while the Padres bats came alive with multiple hits being recorded by Danny Dunsdon and Jay and Ryan Nilsson. With the split Padres remain in third position on the Northside table and travel to Darra this weekend to take on the West’s Bulldogs in another double-header. Disappointing results in the lower major’s grades where the B Grade errored its way to 14-9 loss while the Major C grade struggled at the plate in its 3-0 loss to All Stars. The club’s other two senior minor division’s team’s returned to the winner’s lists, the Black team defeating Eagles 14-11 at home, Kent Harle picking up 2 home runs, while the Red team defeated Wests at Darra 11-3, Keith Land picking up three hits. On Saturday, the Division one teams took on Wests at home and whilst not losing a game could have done better. The Under 14 Division 1 team fought back from a 5-0 deficit to draw with Wests 5-5 but poor execution in the final innings cost them the victory. Good pitching from Shannon Mills and Dan Nilsson along with strong batting from Nilsson and Nick Draper, who both collected 2 hits, were highlights for the team. The Under 16 Division 1 continued their winning form with a great defensive effort defeating Wests 3-2. Solid performances were recorded by Lucas Bakker and Jesse Michel while the Under 20’s also recorded a draw by the score of 6 all with Wests at Talobilla Park. The Under 16 Division 2 team returned home from Runcorn with the points, after they defeated Indians 12-6 and now sit in second spot on the competition ladder. Both Under 14 Division 2 teams played well, the Red team, despite a home run from Todd Burkhill, went down to Redlands in a tight one 8-4 at home while the Black team went down to Redsox 10-4 at Carina. In the Under 12’s, the White and Red teams played out an exciting draw at home while the Black team went down to Narangba at home. All three Under 10 and three Under 8 teams continued their season and whilst scores are not recorded, all teams are showing improvement in their skill levels. Views: 227 |
