For the first time this year Moreton Bay Regional Council is offering a $2,000 scholarship to one of the region’s environmental students. Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland said he was proud to announce the inaugural Don Perrin Environmental Bursary. “This bursary, in honour of Don Perrin and his instrumental role in establishing the Redcliffe Botanic Gardens, will help continue Don’s environmental work,” Mayor Sutherland said. “Through this bursary, council is investing in our region by making sure there are qualified people around to protect, preserve and rehabilitate our landscape and marine environment.” Sustainability spokesperson Councillor Rae Frawley (Div 6) said the bursary would be awarded to a resident of Moreton Bay Regional Council area who had accepted an offer to study an environmental based university degree such as a Bachelor of Science, Marine Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Health or Environmental Education. “We’re looking for enthusiastic students who have above average results, an active role in the community and who can clearly outline how the bursary money will be spent on their environmental education,” Cr Frawley said. “Our applicants will be judged by a panel of community representatives and council staff.”
