An AFL great has cast doubt over Geelong’s premiership chances after the true extent of Patrick Dangerfield’s ankle injury was revealed.

Geelong Cats superstar Patrick Dangerfield will be sidelined “indefinitely” after undergoing ankle surgery on Wednesday evening.

Dangerfield limped off GMHBA Stadium during the third quarter of Geelong’s 30-point victory over North Melbourne on the weekend, telling reporters he felt it was a minor tweak.

Scans later revealed the 31-year-old had suffered a syndesmosis injury, the club deciding surgery was the best course of action.
