Brisbane newborn baby awaits bone marrow transplant while suffering rare illness
Georgia Hilliar has endured more health issues in her very short life than many people would in a lifetime.
The Brisbane baby has spent almost every day in hospital after she was born in January.
And until last week, the cause of her illnesses was a mystery.
“She’s gone through so many different tests to get to this point,” her mother Lucy Hilliar told 7NEWS.com.au.
Georgia had suffered “ulcers completely covering the inside of her mouth” and “eyes that puffed up like golf balls”, Hilliar says.
The tiny baby also suffered from a urinary tract infection which became septic, and then from a “really horrific, all-over-body rash with fevers” and subsequent apnea which “was so severe, she was in ICU”.
