Manchester City reach Champions League semi-finals, Liverpool knocked out by Real Madrid
Manchester City is another step closer to realising their Champions League dream after advancing to the semi-finals, beating Borussia Dortmund 2-1 for a 4-2 aggregate win in their quarter-final tie.
But it was more disappointment for Liverpool, who were unable to overturn a 3-1 deficit in their second leg tie against Real Madrid, drawing 0-0 on the night.
Pep Guardiola shared an emotional moment with goalscorer Phil Foden as City ended its run of failure at the quarter-final stage, after coming from 1-0 down to hit back through a penalty by Riyad Mahrez and Foden’s well-struck goal.
Guardiola has now reached the semi-finals with City at the fifth attempt, matching the club’s best ever result under his predecessor Manuel Pellegrini in 2016.
