Oscars Writers Share Wild Stories About James Franco, Anne Hathaway

Awards show disaster! Ten years after James Franco and Anne Hathaway cohosted the Oscars, the show’s writers are still haunted by the awkwardness that transpired on stage.

“It was like the world’s most uncomfortable blind date between the cool rocker stoner kid and the adorable theater camp cheerleader,” David Wild, who was one of the four main writers for the 2011 telecast, told The Ringer on Wednesday, April 14.

Wild, who has since worked on the CMA Awards and the Grammys, remembered there being a lack of chemistry between the actors even before the big night.

“Again, this is a memory, but [Anne] was like ‘Maybe you should try that,’ and he was like ‘Don’t tell me how to be funny,’” he recalled.
