Scott Morrison demands equal say with Qld government for 2032 Olympics
Scott Morrison left it to the last minute to pledge his financial support for Queensland’s 2032 Olympic bid, and it came with a catch.
Just over an hour before a final guarantee was due to the International Olympic Committee, the federal government agreed to co-fund Queensland’s 2032 Games bid on the condition of equal say.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison confirmed at 3.57pm on Monday that his government would fund 50 per cent of new infrastructure, including stadiums, venues and roads, for the Games.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said guarantees were due to the International Olympic Committee at 5pm, and she had been “absolutely concerned” about what would happen if the federal government had not pledged their financial support….
